Does God Really Expect Us To Take 
His Word At Face Value?

Did you Know?

The Word of God is:

1. Enduring: "Forever O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven." Psalm 119:89
"Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35

2. Inerrant: "All scripture is God-breathed." 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)
"Every word of God is pure ... Do not add unto His words..." Proverbs 30:5-6
"... scripture cannot be broken." John 10:35
"Let God be true, though every man be found a liar." Romans 3:4 (NAS)

3. Clear:
God's wisdom is ... "all ... righteousness; nothing crooked or perverse is in it ... " All His words are "plain ... and right to those who find knowledge." Proverbs 8:8-9

There's a tendency today to resist the plain straightforward absolutes of the Bible.  Don't ever forget that Jesus is the One Who said: "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead" Luke 16:31.  Isn't it true that casting doubt on the clear message of the Old Testament (Torah) is crucial to the Deceiver's strategy?

What causes our lack of understanding?
You really only know what you have been taught (by observation or interpretation).  If that is built on error and fallacy, then your conclusions will be distorted until some re-evaluation takes place.

1. Ignorance of God's word and His power is a major problem.
Jesus said:
"Ye do err; not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God." Matt. 22:29

2. Natural (unspiritual) thinking is another problem that affects all of us.
"... the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can be know them, because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Cor. 2:14

3. Attraction to fables is another human weakness.
"They shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be
 turned unto fables." 2 Tim. 3:7, 4: 3-4

4.  Willful ignorance mustn't be forgotten either.  Peter says in the 
last days men will be:
"willingly (or willfully) ignorant" of the creation and judgement of God.  2 Pet. 3:4-5

5.  Suppression of truth is another characteristic of our age.  With all our vast knowledge today, isn't it amazing how so much truth is held back from the people?
"The wrath of God is revealed against ... those ... who hold the turth in unrighteousness."  Romans 1:18
