UNDERSTANDING THE 6 MOST BASIC CHRISTIAN BELIEFS
1. Inspiration of Scripture
I Peter 1:2l "The scripture came not at any time by the will of man.
Holy men of God. spoke. as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."
2 Tim. 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God.
John 10:35 "The scripture cannot be broken..."
2. Virgin Birth
OT Is. 7:14 " Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign. Behold a Virgin shall
conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Emmanuel.'
NT Luke 1:26 tells us that an angel of God appeared to Mary, a virgin, who was at the
time engaged to a man named Joseph. The angel told Mary, "You're going to bear a
child, and you shall call his name Jesus (1:3 1) Mary says. in Luke 1:34, "How can this
be? Seeing I know not a man? She was a virgin.
3. Deity of Christ
shall be upon His shoulder and His name shall be called Wonderful.
Counselor, The mighty God, the Everlasting Father. The Prince of Peace."
Matt. 1:23 (NT) quotes Is. 7:14 (OT), "A virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us."
Mark 2: Who can forgive sins but God only?
Mark 2:11-12- Jesus told them that as God, He had power on earth not only to heal, but to forgive sins."
Matt. 26:63- The high priest said, I command you by the living God. tell us whether or not you are the Christ, the Son of God. (V. 64) Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said it...." (NIV) Yes, it is as you say…" Greek word is "emphatic yes..." How do we know the meaning here? This Greek construction occurs over and over in works such
as "Plato's Dialogues," and it the most emphatic form to express, "yes" that a person could use.
Jesus said, Yes, I am..." and the Jews understood... they were so angry that they immediately
planned to kill Him.
"For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead, bodily" (Col. 2:9)
4. Atonement (blood atonement)
Ex. 12:13 'When I see the blood, l’ll Passover.'
Hebrews 9: 12 "Not by the blood of bulls, goats, or calves, but by His own blood He (Jesus)
Heb. 9:22 "For without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins."
The resurrection is the historical keystone of Christian faith, because among other things, Christ cited His resurrection as the proof of His deity, and the verification of all that He taught.
"For as Jonah was 3 days and nights in the belly of the whale, so shall the Son of Man be 3 days and nights in the heart of the earth." (Matt. 12:.40).
(Mark 9:3 1) Jesus taught His disciples, and said unto them, The Son of Man is to be delivered
into the hands of men, and they shall kill Him, and after that He is killed, He shall rise the third day."
Acts 1:4, Jesus. "Showed Himself alive after the crucifixion by many infallible proofs, and was seen by them for 40 days..."
Here is one Biblical example of how Christ's deity is coupled to His resurrection Romans 1:4: "(Jesus was) Declared to be the Son of God with power ... by the resurrection from the dead."
Writing about 56 AD, the Apostle Paul wrote I Cor. 15, :3-5: "How that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and that He rose again from the dead according to the scriptures...."
How do we know that this is true? He was seen by Peter (v. 5) and 3 group appearances are described in this same chapter: The res. Jesus was seen by the 12 disciples (I Cor. 15:5) and by 500 brethren at once (v. 6), and then seen by James and all of the apostles
Matt. 24:30: The Son of Man will come in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.
four winds.. from one end of heaven to another..."
In fact, when defending His Deity, Jesus quoted Daniel 7:13, which describes the return, the 2nd coming, "The Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven..."
I Thess. 4:16: "For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God...and the dead in Christ shall rise first (this ties Christ's resurrection and return, in with the believers resurrection, those believers who have died, the saved from all of history, will be resurrected and given a glorious immortal body, when Christ returns. ) "the dead in Christ shall rise first, then we which are alive and remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, so shall we ever be with the Lord.'
We just spoke about the atonement from Heb. 9, and this same chapter that so clearly teaches about Christ's blood sacrifice to wash sin away, this chapter teaches about how Christ will one day return.
Heb. 9:28- "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many,
and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time..."
Christ will return..... 2 Thess. 4 - 1 8: "Wherefore. comfort one another with these words..."
